About Alexandra

img_20180321_204339_4227262627620040779604.jpgAs a graduate assistant, I have spent the past few years assisting professors with research and content analysis, teaching political science courses, and redesigning the websites of the Political Science Department (2016) and Global Studies Institute (2018). Beyond graduate school, I spend my time practicing Ashtanga yoga, rock climbing, and knitting. I have an adorable dog, Teddy, whom I credit with keeping me sane through the dissertation process!

Living with rheumatoid arthritis, an autoimmune disorder, I am also passionate about health advocacy for people living with chronic illness and survivors of acute health trauma. In 2011, three years after a severe allergic reaction called toxic epidermal necrolysis, I started the blog My Sudden Sight to encourage individuals who have experienced health trauma. I believe my work and perseverance in graduate school have served as a testament to the healing properties of doing what you love.

That being said, I believe the three keys to success in graduate school are: sufficient sleep, eating well, and finding a healthy work-life balance.
